Become an Orientation Leader
So, you wanna be an Orientation Leader?
If you enjoy meeting people and are interested in helping new Islanders transition to the campus, we would love to have you join our crew!
Our Orientation Leaders are current Islanders that work to assist new students and their families at the University's Orientation programs. As an Orientation Leader, you will:
- Attend and actively participate in all Orientation Leader training programs.
- Assist with the organization, planning, and implementation of activities for all summer New Student Orientations.
- Acquaint new students with campus services, activities, facilities, and campus rules and regulations.
- Encourage new students to fully participate in their campus environment.
- Help new students with understanding academic requirements and responsibilities.
- Give campus tours to prospective/new students and their families.
- Be given other duties as assigned.
You'll also have the opportunity to enhance your interpersonal skills, campus knowledge, and confidence, while providing a service to others and serving as a role model to your fellow Islanders.
Who can be an Orientation Leader?
We welcome any Islander to apply, but will look for the qualifications listed below. To be eligible to become an Orientation Leader, you must:
- Be currently enrolled as a full-time student at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
- Speak positively about A&M-Corpus Christi and its departments/programs.
- Relate well to people on an individual basis; possesses strong interpersonal skills.
- Display a professional demeanor.
- Have an ability and willingness to present to groups of 20 or more.
- Be reliable, responsible, mature, self-motivated, and a quick learner.
- Be interested in working with and assisting diverse groups of people.
- Work effectively as a member of a team in order to accomplish goals.
- Work well with minimal supervision and structure.
- Be able to maintain confidentiality of student information obtained verbally or in written form.
What will be expected of me if I become an Orientation Leader?
The responsibilities of an Orientation Leader include, but are not limited to:
- Attending all Orientation dates and adjoining prep days (exceptions will be made due to class conflict).
- Attending all Orientation Leader functions as listed on the mandatory dates page.
- Volunteering 3 hours per week with New Student Programs to conduct campus tours or assist with office duties.
- Attending and be prepared for all scheduled meetings.
- Maintaining your designated tour time as assigned.
- Assisting with Orientation follow-up calls or e-mails to orientation attendees.
